Shintaro Seki, JSPS PD Researcher of the Music Informatics Team, commented on the article “Choral music meets machine learning: the Sparrows’ challenge,” published on It Ain’t Magic, a science blog operated by RIKEN’s Global Communications Team. He remarked that “this project is very well designed, based on a clear division of roles in the collaboration between choral music and computer science.”
The article introduces an initiative in which high school students belonging to a German boys’ choir created a new choral work using machine learning trained on Gregorian chant. By combining traditional music theory with AI, the project represents a compelling example of choir × AI collaboration and has received high acclaim in actual performances.
