Title: Current Challenges in Automatic Grammatical Error Correction
Abstract: Grammatical Error Correction (GEC) is the task of automatically detecting and correcting grammatical errors in text. There has been significant progress in the field in the past 5-10 years, but there is still room for improvement. In this talk, I will discuss some of the remaining challenges in GEC research and introduce some of the work that we are doing to overcome them. Particular challenges I will mention include: cross-sentence context errors (e.g. “I was tired. I [go -> went] to bed.”), multi-word expressions (e.g. [on other hand -> on the other hand]) and unsupervised correction given detection.
