On September 15, 2017, Thyra Frank, Denmark’s Minister for Senior Citizens, toured RIKEN’S Center for Advanced Intelligence Project (AIP) in Tokyo’s Chuo Ward.

After a brief introduction to RIKEN by Executive Director Yoichiro Matsumoto, who is responsible for AIP oversight, Mihoko Otake, head of AIP’s Cognitive Behavioral Assistive Technology (CB-AT) Team, explained her team’s research and outlined the “Coimagination method,” a cognitive behavioral assistive system for the interactive communication of older adults. Hopes are high that this method will help to alleviate the cognitive decline of older adults and prevent the onset of dementia.

Following this, Minister Frank and her accompanying staff of three, were given the opportunity to try out the “Coimagination method” for themselves with conversational assistive AI and a robot.

It is hoped that this visit will lead to collaborative efforts with Danish organizations and researchers to further develop AI technology to prevent cognitive decline in older adults.
