In collaboration with Tohoku University, TAKAYAMA Jun, Visiting Scientist, and Gen TAMIYA, Team Leader of Statistical Genetics Team,have completed and released the Japanese reference genome (JG1), which is a high-precision reference sequence applicable to whole human genome analyses as a reference. JG1 was constructed by analyzing the genomes of three Japanese individuals by high-coverage, long-read next-generation sequencing technologies. JG1 has attracted increasing attention as a potential alternative to the international reference genome *1 used thus far.
＊1. International reference genome：The human genome sequence constructed by the Human Genome Project during the 1990s and 2000s. It has now been maintained by the Genome Reference Consortium. Most next-generation sequencing analyses use the genome sequence as a reference.
