Overview
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other kinds of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have advanced rapidly in recent years. There is an urgent need to develop an ethical foundation for continued coevolution with technology through coexistence and symbiosis with things and machines, while retaining an appropriate awe of technology.
RIKEN plans to hold an international symposium concerning ethical issues toward the era of AI Technology Civilization in Kyoto on 15 and 16 December 2018 in order to kick off international discussions for formulating a set of ethical principles for human beings toward the era of AI Technology Civilization mainly from academic viewpoints of humanities and social sciences (e.g. philosophy, ethics, pedagogy, and jurisprudence). This set of ethical principles, tentatively named as “Human-Ethics (JINRIN)in the Era of AI”, would consist of ethical norms for human beings along with the global advancement and deployment of AI Networking throughout human societies.
