The 6th Conference on Discrete Optimization and Machine Learning was held at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo from July 8 to 10, 2024. Leading researchers in combinatorial optimization and machine learning from around the world gathered to share the latest research findings.
On the first day, Center Director Professor Masashi Sugiyama delivered a lecture on “The Relationship Between Training Error and Bayes Error in Deep Learning.” Following this, Professor Akiko Takeda, leader of the Continuous Optimization Team, presented on “Random Projections for Large-Scale Optimization Problems.”
On the final day, Dr. Pierre-Louis Poirion, a researcher on the Continuous Optimization Team, gave a lecture titled “Random Sub-Manifold Methods for Optimization on the Stiefel Manifold.”
This conference covered the latest developments in the field of discrete optimization and machine learning, providing valuable insights for future research directions. For detailed programs and presentation abstracts, please refer to the official conference website for this year.
The 7th conference is scheduled as follows:
- Date: May 12-16, 2025
- Location: Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS), Kyoto University
Following the continued success of this international conference series, the next event in Kyoto is expected to foster further research exchange and the creation of innovative ideas.
